Elasticity Probe

Measurement of skin elevation and subsequent retraction time

When you need to know about elasticity

Measure elasticity - get objective professional readings

Skin elasticity is the ability of skin to bounce back when it is stretched. With time and sun exposure, skin elasticity drops, and the skin looks older. Therefore, skin elasticity strongly correlates with its appearance of looking young or old.

Elasticity is a central physical parameter of interest for skin professionals who focus on assessment and treatment of skin aging and wrinkles.

The elasticity probe is used to measure elasticity in skin, and it gives you exact data on skin elasticity instead of subjective guesswork.

A special design for precise elasticity measurements

The Elasticity Probe is based on the suction cup method, which measures the actual elevation of the skin, as a function of a predefined negative pressure setting.

The preset vacuum is applied instantly to reflect the true elastic properties of the skin.

With the probe in place, negative pressure lifts the skin and the measured elevation is the input to calculate Young´s modulus (E). Once lifted, the negative pressure is released, and the retraction time (R) is measured.

These two parameters describe the skin behavior during the suction phase as well as the retraction, and both parameters form input to the calculation of the visco-elasticity (VE) thus combining both phases in one parameter.

In contrast to other bulky elasticity probes on the market, The Cortex Elasticity Probe is a lightweight probe, which is glued to the skin using a double adhesive sticker and thereby movement artifacts from holding the probe are eliminated.

The Elasticity Probe is available for both the DermaLab Combo and the DermaLab Single.
