“The Colorimeter DSM-4 has proven to be an effective tool for accurately measuring skin pigmentation. We have verified this through a recent comparative study, where the DSM-4 demonstrated its excellent accuracy.”
The DSM-4's optimized design for skin color measurements ensures accurate ITA values, making it particularly useful to distinguish between individuals that differ in their degree of pigmentation.
Additionally, it allows for reliable estimation of differences in sun exposure by comparing constitutive and facultative pigmentation. This makes the DSM-4 a valuable instrument for both clinical and research settings.”

“We have purchased four Colorimeter DSM devices for various research projects in our university lab. One of our recent publications uses the DSM for melanin measurement, and we are very pleased with the device.
We are currently using it in Rwanda and Ghana, in addition to our work in the US. Since our research focuses on developing equitable medical optical devices, understanding and quantifying skin properties scientifically is crucial, and the DSM devices have been instrumental in meeting our needs.”

"Our primary purpose for using the DSM-4 was for clinical research; we wanted an unbiased measurement of skin color alongside patients’ self-reported Fitzpatrick scores.
We chose the DSM-4 because it was positively reviewed in a comparative study assessing multiple clinical research colorimeters. I was looking to collect data about melanin index and CIELAB values, and the fact that this device measures both was very helpful. The size and price of the device was appealing compared to other options.
The size and portability of the colorimeter was very helpful for clinical use. I appreciated that the colorimeter was quick and easy to use; it was something I could demonstrate on myself to show patients how it worked as part of their consent to participate in research. The wireless design and long battery life was also essential for our purposes.
I would definitely recommend this one for everyday use in a similar setting. It has worked very well for us for over a year, and it still functions just like new."
